So it’s National Boss’s Day Today.
Did you forget? I will not say if we did or did not let that slip our mind (we plead the fifth). Chances are, with all the craziness that most offices endure, forgetting the holiday that every boss wants you to remember, but doesn’t remind you of, has flown silently under the radar. So if HR Tech, new clients, current clients, projects, interviews or any other everyday task has blocked this very important day from your memory, never fear! Red Branch Media has some quick ideas you can use on the fly.
Make a Card
While this seems like an elementary idea, it used to get your mom through every Mother’s Day for some reason. The truth is, people really do just love feeling appreciated in the simplest ways. A card that’s passed around the office can be set on their desk for a constant reminder of why they rock. Plus, it’s a great way to brag to visitors without having to say a word.
Use one of our favorite design tools, Canva, where there are templates that can be easily transformed into something they can proudly display. Make it match their office décor and you might get brownie points.
Get Creative with Candy
Maren would not approve of this idea, but let’s be honest. Who doesn’t love sweets? Grab a few bars on your way into work, attach a handwritten note and voila! You have provided the best 2 o’clock pick me up he or she doesn’t have to leave their desk for.
Here are some ideas of clever notes to jot down:
- “You’re the best at rolo-ing with the punches!” (Rolos)
- “Hope your day is EXTRA special, just like you!” (Extra Gum)
- “It’s Boss’s Day! For working so hard, take 5!” (Take 5)
- “You’re a Life Saver!” (Life Savers)
- “For all the work and fun Snickers!” (Snickers)
Grab a Cup ‘o Joe
Think back to what you’ve noticed they love. Whether it be their favorite drink from their favorite coffee shop or a certain breakfast sandwich from a nearby bakery, just a simple sign of appreciation is all it takes. If you don’t know what they always get, pick up the good ol’ gift card. A present that can be given another day is still a sweet way of saying, “I notice what you love and I love that you’re my boss.”
It’s Not Too Late
If you’ve forgotten National Bosses Day, it isn’t because you’re a horrible employee, it’s because you’re so busy trying to keep the company they built going. (see… Maren!) So bosses, give your forgetful employees a break, they just happen to really value your business. Employees, late gifts are still gifts, right?
