Come and experience captivating insights from industry leaders on HR! Check out IgniteHR, which we’re integrating into SocialHR Camp for the first time! Meet people and get some networking in! Get free food and drinks! Use our bathroom when the time comes! We’ve got it all.
Of course, we know this will be the first time in Omaha for many of you, since our city is smack-dab in the center of the nation. If this is your first time visiting, we’ve got a few friendly tips for making your visit here as lovely as possible.
Where to Stay
If you’re from a big city, Omaha will probably feel like a hamlet by comparison. That said, the City of Omaha has built a facsimile of urban density that will help urbanites fall asleep to the sounds of car noises, and it’s called Downtown. If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are several hotels there you can use, and most of them will end up being cheaper than what you’re used to.
- Hilton Omaha
- DoubleTree
- Residence Inn
- Hilton Garden Inn
- Element Omaha Midtown Crossing
- Courtyard Omaha Aksarben Village
In addition to how comfy they all are, you’ll be in prime position to take an Uber to and from the event there, a quick ten minutes away. There’s also Airbnb to find some more affordable places to stay, if you want the hospitality of a hotel mixed with the warmth of a real human being whose house you’ll be visiting.
What to Eat
If you want to be efficient, there’s lots of place near Red Branch Media you can eat. Yes, we do have Subways here. Even Pizza! But if you’re going to come visit, you may as well visit something a little more local, just to get a feel for what Omaha food is like. Here are our top three places to eat while you’re visiting:
Salween Thai: We’ve been here a lot, and Salween Thai is simply amazing. Their Yellow Chicken Curry? Get-out-of-town delicious.
Upstream Brewing: This place has two floors! Oh, and lots of really good wine and beers. Their food is also really good. Basically, this place has all the food.
Bricks & Mortar: Bricks and Mortar is a bar with a great combination of fine drinks and meats. It’s served up fancy, too, so you can impress everyone back home with how small the plates were without paying ridiculous amounts of money.
While You’re Here
There’s lots of other stuff to do here, of course. Not to brag about something I have no involvement in, but Omaha does have the best zoo in the world. You kind of have to dedicate a whole day to it though, since it’s really big and wondrous and you could get lost and it’s great. If you’re looking for something to do same day, there’s the Hot Shops Art Center, where you can check out a lot of cool pottery. If you’re on a shopping kick, check out the Old Market area for lots of smaller businesses that sell some amazing clothes and other items. We also have the Soaring Wings vineyard (Warning: sound), and the Joslyn Art Museum.
Of course, don’t forget to actually stop by SocialHRCamp on Friday! Registration starts at 9:00am, with the event proper starting at 9:30, featuring some of the most renowned speakers in HR. Tickets are $99, and the event takes place from 9:30 to around 4:30, when the last of the sessions will close, with light cocktails afterward. So come down to Omaha, see some sights, load up on HR knowledge, and leave happy!
