So with that in mind, what will the role be for visual content in 2017?

Venngage circulated a survey asking over 300 online marketers about the role that visual content played in their marketing strategies in 2016, and the role that they project visual content will play in the coming year. Some of the results probably won’t surprise you. Like how 90% of marketers surveyed said that they used visuals in more than 50% of the articles they published. Or how the use of visual content by marketers rose by 130% between 2015 and 2016.

But you might be surprised to learn that despite many marketing experts saying video content was king in 2016, only 20.2% of marketers surveyed said that video content performed the best. In fact, the top performing type of visual content was still stock photos (35%), followed by original graphics, like infographics, the most (30.4%). When asked how much marketers projected to spend on visual content in 2017, 35.5% replied that they would spend more than a third of their budget on visual content. How will visual content play into your marketing strategy for 2017?
