Is it the End of the Road for Branding on Facebook? (Infographic)

Ever since Facebook started changing their algorithms, social media marketers have noticed a huge decrease in their ability to reach fans organically. Facebook has been focusing their changes on user privacy and preference, which is causing brands’ pages to suffer. At one-time social media marketers were able to get comments, likes and shares for free, now Facebook is pushing them to pay for play.

Did you know ever since the changes only 2-8% of large brands Facebook fans see the brands posts and only .073% of them interact with the post? Facebook may be limiting the posts that users see, but users have between 1,500-15,000 potential posts to review when they log in to their account. Yet your brands’ posts aren’t in that mix? Nope. According to the Facebook survey, users want to see posts from their friends rather than promotion posts from brands.

Facebook has been encouraging brands to invest in its advertising program and that is drastically helping their bottom line. In Q4 of 2013,Facebook earned $3.85 Billion in revenue most of which was from advertising.

So what are you to do? Get back to your marketing basics. Keep up with email marketing, focus on your sites offering and look to invest in other social media outlets. That’s not to say that advertising on Facebook can’t be beneficial, but it is said that the Instagram app boasts 58X higher per-follower engagement for top brands than on Facebook. That’s something to take into consideration.
