6 Things to Know Before Starting Your Workweek (May 11)

Whoa, this workweek was chock FULL of HR snark, news, happenings and “mimbly-pimbly” (which is a word Eric made up).

BOOM TOWN

Well the announcement happened on Monday, that Matt Charney is now a full-on partner in the comeback kid that is Recruitingblogs/Recruiting Daily. The media entity (??) also announced it was bringing on Bill Boorman as Director of Innovation and would proceed with taking over the world. With Bridget Webb officially there as well and a powerhouse team including Katrina Kibben, Derek Zeller and more…we can safely say…they have enough white people. (Recruiting Daily)

QUORA IS NOT ASK MISS MANNERS

Engineers are not the most savvy people in the world. Like us all, they can assume the web is a safe place to ask for advice and like us (or our 7th grade selves) they are wrong. One poor sap had two awesome job offers, one from Uber and one from rising HR Tech behemoth Zenefits. He asked his community which one to take and noted the lack of cache in the Zenefits name. The CEO noticed and told him to straight piss off. The problem with a social media savvy CEO is they might just be trolling the social media boards looking for rad engineers. I’m of a split mind on this one. First off, poor judgement engineer, that was super dumb and I feel the CEO for being like “Dude, we have loads of people that want to work with us so we don’t need overblown egos around here”. But Zenefits CEO man looks a teeny bit petty by rescinding before getting the story. He might have been better off publicly humbling the guy and crowing later when Zenefits is the star of all those Silicon Valley parties I think exist and Uber is selling out to a Taxi company. IN OTHER WHACKJOBS

This CEO in South Dakota is convinced that 279 out of 280 hires wait because…millennials. Mmmmmmkay. That’s definitely it. For sure. It’s not a better economy with unlimited options to your North, your own employees saying you’re a douche or the fact that you offer everything but respect. (Argus Leader)

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Do you know how much your friends make? If not, check out the hashtag #talkpay. In an effort to get everyone on the same page around salary and compensation, people are violating the “last great taboo” (a little on the nose but okay). Carrie Corbin brought this to my attention and with good reason. As recruiters or HR pros, we find ourselves constantly up against competitive salaries and packages but what are those? Trying to stay fair to the American worker (TM) and also keep budgets under control ain’t easy. (Wired)

WE ARE LEGIT

SocialHRCamp, brain child of Jeff Waldman and endlessly worked on by Marissa Litty, of Red Branch Media fame, has now been approved for HRCI credits. So this conference, which happens THIS FRIDAY (gulp) is going to be FUN and educational. But seriously, read all about it. We also put together a little post to familiarize yourself with O-Town. THINK THIS ISN’T HR NEWS?

Then you’re a terrible person. (Vox)
