6 Things You Need to Know Before Starting Your Workweek (Aug. 31)

Is it me or did last workweek go by very quickly? It’s been a whirlwind in the HR Community and I am pretty sure most of us are NOT prepared for HR Technology which is just over a month away! Yikes. As usual the HR Technology community or the World of Work was busy as a bee this past week. Wanna know what’s up?

MOVIN’ GROOVIN’

Kevin Grossman made the switch from Peoplefluent to a new role on the Talent Board, the fine people who bring us the Cand-Es every year. Kevin has long been an admired marketing influence of mine and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do in this new role! Congratulations, Kevin! Learn more. (Talent Board)

COLLEGE FUND

This is more about the future of work and how much I am willing to pay for it. I, like many “cusps,” value my college degree and I know the young people working for me value theirs, but during a convo with our accountant I realized, I don’t really have that much faith in the college funds we’re saving up for our kiddos. Seems lots of millennials, and whoever is next, feel the exact same way. Do you think college is going by the wayside? (HRNasty)

AMAZON STILL ON BLAST

It’s not that surprising that Amazon is still receiving flack about the NYT article, but it IS surprising that many HR pros are rushing to defend the retail behemoth. Most of the arguments sounds something like “and show me a company that doesn’t make pregnant women cry?” which makes me sad for my kids (who probably won’t have a college degree) because WTAF are we doing to our workforce? But, to be fair, even my employees who are the actual luckiest people in the world, still complain about the AC so here’s a varietal opinion to sip on. (Quora)

BUT ALSO?? FREEBIE!

Cody Tromler, who is rapidly becoming our GIF addicted cranky AV dude (who we couldn’t live without) found this gem. Did anyone even know this was happening? When did I get so old? (Amazon Underground)

PROBABLY YOU ALREADY KNOW

That Lifehacker has an amazing series called How I Work and I love it and it completes me. Probably because I am one of those learners that appreciates copying everyone else. Y’know, so I know I’m doing everything right. Or better, like this guy uses MS Word still! WUUUUUUT?! (Lifehacker)

DONATE. WE’RE OLD!

Just kidding. All my friends are doing amazing things, some in honor of their birthdays, like William Tincup. Tincup is one-half of the dynamic duo over at KeyInterval and also just had a birthday. To celebrate he is giving away all his hair and donating the cash he raises to ALS research, specifically TeamFox, which I feel is like kismet because I was just watching Back to the Future and Back to the Future II. PSShaley had a brainstorm in Thursday’s editorial meeting and soon, we’ll be starting Employer Brand Watch, which will bring you the latest and greatest around EB every week so I can go back to gossiping about my friends.
