Are You Ready for Your Interview? 7 of the Most Outrageous Questions

Interviews can be nerve-racking even for the most confident candidate. If you are like any candidate you may prepare for questions that may be asked like “Describe a time your boss upset you, how did you handle the situation?” Or “Tell me a time when you made a mistake at your job, what did you do to improve?” Or “If a customer cusses you out, what would you do?”. Questions such as these can be hard to answer if unprepared. What do you say when you’re confronted with an out of the blue question? Check out these outrageous interview questions.

What do you think about when you’re alone?

interview

HUH? How is this even a question? I suppose saying “Whether this brown stuff on my desk is chocolate or something more sinister and should I eat it?” I don’t think that would get me very far.

If you were a fruit what would you be?

interview

I cannot even begin to fathom how this might affect job performance but obviously, I am an apricot.

Are you pregnant?

interview

Um, no. Not only is this offensive but it’s illegal to ask in an interview. Also, BRB, going to burn this dress.

How many jellybeans are in this jar?

interview

This question is only appropriate if you are interviewing for a position as a carnival barker.

Estimate how many windows are in New York.

interview

Sometimes the questions can be both outrageous but also useful, consider this one, asked at Bain & Co. for an associate consultant opening. No word on the correct answer but I think mine would be, “I don’t want to work here.”

Pick two celebrities to be your parents.

interview

False. Not a question. But seriously, if Urban Outfitters asked you this question, obviously the answer is Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz. How could you get that WRONG?

What is your least favorite thing about humanity?

interview

Operations associates at ZocDoc get asked this and I think the correct answer is the Kardashians.

To be honest, most interview questions are patently ridiculous but it’s a game we play. You can prepare all you want but still may be faced with an impossible or ridiculous question. With that said, good luck on your next interview!
