10 Things To Do When You Visit Omaha

So you booked a trip to Omaha, Nebraska and you aren’t sure what there is to do? When I was looking at a few different blogs, I realized that a lot of people are creating these “Omaha to-do’s” centered around children or couples. Sorry about it, this list is not centered around children or couples. This list is what I would want to do around the city.

1. Henry Doorly Zoo

I said no kids activities, but I seriously love the zoo. It is a huge Omaha attraction and it is one of the largest in the world. Right now, they are doing a lot of construction so it won’t be as great, but once the construction is completed we will have an entirely new zoo. They are creating the African Grasslands expansion and it should be completed by summer of 2016.

2. Storm Chasers Game

I love going to baseball games! In the summertime it is awesome being able to soak up the sun, watch baseball, and sip on a couple of drinks. One of the best parts of seeing games at Werner Park is that on Thursdays beers are only $2. #ThirstyThursday

3. Old Market

There are about 1,000 different things to do in the Old Market. You can visit clothing boutiques, unique restaurants and of course, the nightlife is awesome. Here is an ideal night out in the Old Market: Start at Roja have a couple margaritas and a few appetizers (Tip: use PayPal to pay, sometimes they even have coupons), head to 10th street and sit outside on the patio at either Stadium Club or JD Tuckers. When the sun finally goes down and you want to dance, head to The Hive. It is one of the newest most popular bars downtown. If the crowd is too young there, head over to Parliament Pub, they have live bands on the weekends.

4. Hot Shops Art Center

The Hot Shops are really unique and a lot of people enjoy being able to check out local artists work and also take classes at the center. The Hot Shops are a cooperative art space that has been home to HR Reinvention.

5. Horsemen’s Park

I have just recently discovered Horsemen’s Park. It is very interesting, but it still made my list. My first time here was during the Kentucky Derby, it was packed! Obviously, it isn’t like that all the time so I am determined to go back and watch some live horse races.

6. Nebraska Crossing Outlets

We finally have some decent shopping outlets right outside of Omaha. Some of the retailers that are at the outlets include: Coach, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Under Armour, and Vera Bradley.

7. Funny Bone Comedy Club

The Funny Bone comedians put on a good show. I enjoy going to the shows during the week and laughing. If you can take a joke sit up front, if you are a little sensitive choose the back or they will get you!

8. Lucky Bucket Tour

Taking beer tours are awesome. I love being able to go to Lucky Bucket, paying $3 and getting to sample some great beer. Be sure to taste their summer seasonal beer Belly Flop!

9. Defy Gravity

I have to admit, I have yet to do this, but I am really excited to soon. Defy Gravity is a huge indoor trampoline arena. They even have trampolines on the walls. Tip: If you can, get a group together and you should play dodgeball!

10. Backline Comedy

I have never been to Backline Comedy Club, but it has been suggested to me many times. If you enjoy improv, a glass of wine or a cold beer, you have to see a show. Check out this fan’s comment: “What a fantastic place. I’ve been here many times and the service is always impeccable. The wine selection is great, ranging from $15 and up per bottle so you don’t need to spend a lot, but you can definitely find something perfect for any occasion. Final note: Get. The. Cheese. Plate. Best in town!”Jenn L. Omaha, NE   I think I will get the cheese plate when I go!
