The world is becoming more and more AI-focused. Since it’s all the buzz, companies everywhere are getting AI integrated with their platforms, tools, offerings, consulting, and more. With that, the design world is changing too, but I believe it’s for the better. In this article, you’ll learn my top 3 favorite AI design tricks you can add to your weekly workflows and repeat as needed to help automate and speed up your processes!
As an added bonus, you’ll get to listen to RBM’s newest playlist at the bottom of the article, featuring songs we are currently stuck listening to on repeat!
Design AI Tip #1: Use Canva Magic Studio
The first AI tip I could recommend to anyone, whether you’re a designer or not, is Canva Magic Studio. Over the years, Canva has received a lot of humorous kickback from the design community, but recently, Canva has been taking its platform to the next level.
Its AI tools let you do a lot of the things you can do in Photoshop, such as Magic Expand to use AI to generate content to expand your image, Magic Edit & Magic Grab to remove backgrounds, transform photos, isolate an object or person on an image and let you move them around, and more with AI, Magic Eraser to remove unnecessary items from photos, Magic Morph to take your text and objects to the next level with AI-generated effects, and Magic Write to have AI help you write content.
Not only can you access this library of amazing tools, but Canva also has integrated apps you can use to elevate your designs. Some of the coolest apps Canva offers are “Enhancer” to upscale your images with AI, “DALL-E” to generate AI imagery, and “Sketch to Life,” which uses your sketch to generate AI images. Finally, you can use Canva to generate content with Magic Design. If you’re new to Canva or apprehensive about the platform, the time is now to dive in and use this amazing design tool!

Design AI Tip #2: Use AI Figma Plugins
Figma is a foundational design platform for any designer. The things you can create with this app are incredible, but great deliverables can consume time. That’s where Figma plugins come in, especially AI-assisted plugins.
Check out this list of the 10+ Best Figma AI Plugins in 2024 for UI/UX designers from Mockuuups Studio. These plugins are phenomenal, with my favorite 3 being Person Generator to quickly generate fake people for avatars, Unbackground to instantly remove a background from an image, and MagiCopy to help generate quick text on the fly. While these plugins are great, there are still a ton more great AI plugins Figma offers; just check out the AI plugin list here!

Design AI Tip #3: Using Adobe’s AI: Adobe Firefly
The AI magic itself happens in our favorite Adobe apps by the AI known as Adobe Firefly. While you might already know how to use Generative Fill in Photoshop or even if you don’t (here’s 33 Ways to use Photoshop Generative Fill AI), Firefly can do some amazing things. You can turn your text into an image, generate vectors, shapes, or patterns in Adobe Illustrator, and use Generative Remove in Adobe Lightroom with to aid your professional photo editing. The magic doesn’t stop there, though. Check out the Adobe Firefly homepage here to try out other features, such as generating a template, generative vector recoloring, text effects, and more!
Adobe Firefly’s homepage is packed with tons of things you can try out with AI!
With the ever-changing landscape of AI and the impact it’s continuing to have on the world, it’s important to note the amazing things AI can do for us. Using these 3 tips should profoundly help your design workflows (it’s definitely helped mine), so please don’t hesitate to use them now – or share them with others who could benefit from them! Be mindful that AI shouldn’t be used as a tool to do your work for you but as a great ally to assist you with the work you create.
